The Pool

The Pool is an online platform that allows artists to connect with each other and with art professionals. Artists can share their practice, make connections and exchange experiences on The Pool. They can publish events, ask questions related to their professional practice such as residencies and exchange materials.

All professional artists based in the Netherlands can apply to The Pool.

At first, it was solely aimed at artists who graduated just before or during the pandemic (2019, 2020 and 2021) and therefore were limited in their ability to show themselves and their art to the world. The Pool is now open to all artists.

We also invite art professionals to share their knowledge with these artists and welcome them to connect for possible collaborations.

Springboard Art Fair by Almicheal Fraay

Springboard art fair

This Art Foundation gave a physical stage to artists who graduated during the corona pandemic. For them we organised the one-time-only Springboard Art Fair from 8 to 11 June 2023 in the Werkspoorkathedraal in Utrecht.

The participants were selected and supervised by 25 coaches, for example curators, renowned artists and gallery owners. Together with these coaches, artists themselves determined what their presentation would look like. Springboard did therefore not look like a conventional art fair, but a dynamic exhibition.

Every artist presenting their practice at The Pool could be selected for Springboard Art Fair. Coaches chose their group of artists from the profiles on The Pool.

Foundation

This Art Foundation was set up in 2005 with the aim to support visual artists in their profession, both artistically and organisationally. The foundation has done so by creating an annual, high-quality art event in Amsterdam’s Oude Kerk: Art in Redlight. In 2014, Art in Redlight celebrated its 10-year anniversary by moving to the Beurs van Berlage.

It was at this new location that the foundation further put itself on the map, with more visitors and more artists participating in the fair than ever before. In 2015, the foundation continued this process of professionalisation, with a new name for the event, This Art Fair, a new look, and new team members.

In the years to follow, This Art Fair continued its growth, attracting more visitors every year and increasing the quality of presentations. In 2020, This Art Fair decided to move to a new location in Amsterdam Noord, in a different season, to sustain the fair’s growth. At the same time the foundation launched a new initiative, This Works, that offers masterclasses, workshops, collections visits and network events. This Works is a club for ambitious artists that want to expand their practice and invest in their cultural entrepreneurship. The foundation has organised other events fostering your talent and reaching new audiences with pop-up events and exhibitions.

Do you want to continue learning and gain inspiration as an artist? Do you want to deepen your knowledge about all facets of being an artist and the art world? And also expand your network? Then This Works is for you. This Works is a club for and by artists, where the exchange of knowledge and experience is central. As a professional artist with ambition, you will find an inspiring environment at This Works – whether you are a starting artist, an old hand in the business, or anything in between.

A subscription to This Works allows you to participate, together with other artists, in an ongoing program of some 40 master classes, consultations, workshops, networking drinks and collection visits per year.

The activities at This Works cover various aspects of artistry and the art world, organized in collaboration with renowned and successful individuals in the field. For example, you will write the perfect artist statement after a writing clinic and you will apply for grants more successfully after attending a workshop. You will get a look behind the scenes (depots) of museums and after attending a master class you will sell your own work like crazy. With a subscription to This Works, you take new steps in professionalizing your art practice.
